Apple Cracks Down On Loot Boxes

Apple has today announced that all video games or apps in its app stores which have loot boxes will require giving a probability of winning to users in an attempt to regulate and battle addiction with loot boxes being compared by many people as gambling.

It, however, has not yet been revealed how it will happen, whether it will be in the game or it could just be displayed in less effective ways such as in a one-time pop-up window or in the T&C’s. Despite the criticism with governments and platforms such as Steam and Apple trying to tackle it, loot boxes are likely to stay as it is very lucrative for publishers.
