Doom 2

Only available after shooting the games final boss in the face, players gained the ability to walk through the carcass. What would they find on the other side? But of course, the game’s co-creator, John Romero’s head on a stick playing a strange backward sound file. Once decoded, it reads “to win the game you must kill me, John Romero!”

Resident Evil 7

In an effort to make the game as real looking (and disgusting) as possible, the Capcom team supposedly went to some surprising lengths. According to Killscreen, Capcom went to a meat processing plant to take pictures of different meats to make their monsters more realistic looking. That’s right, the Resident Evil 7 monsters are composed of real dead animal parts.

You’ll only understand this easter egg if you played Resident Evil. Jill Valentine was once upon a time almost crushed in a trap bedroom with a slowly lowering ceiling. Luckily, she is saved by Barry Burton who makes the joke “you were almost a Jill sandwich!” Notice anything funny about this sandwich stand?

Batman Arkham Asylum

Clearly, players never searched hard enough to find this well-hidden gem of an easter egg. Only revealed two years after its release by developer Rocksteady, it turns out there is a destructible wall in the Quincy Sharp asylum ward that gives players access to a large secret blueprint room. The blueprint hints at the expansion of the asylum to take up a city sector, giving way to the sequel Batman: Arkham City.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

What happens when you find a big button in the middle of the cartel wilderness that says “Don’t Press Me!” Well, you more than likely are going to ignore the text and press it anyway. Breaking the very clearly stated rules releases four homing missiles that target your location. If you stand and await the inevitable, you’ll find that they are actually gag missiles filled with colorful confetti.

Yakuza O

No Yakuza game would be complete without some quirkiness. On one side mission, players are confronted with the option to help “Miracle Johnson” film his Thriller video. While you fight off a horde of zombies, Miracle Johnson is busy moonwalking across the stage in front of his raving fans. Upon completion, players get the choice between a black box and a white box. Sound familiar yet? Black or White happened to be one of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits!

Silent Hill 4

Do you remember that fluffy pink rabbit toy in Eileen Galvin’s room? Of course, you do pervert. Upon your first “peeping” adventure, the stuffed animal is slumped over on her bed. After she is later rushed to the hospital, if you go for a second look, you’ll find the creepy little thing sitting upright and pointing at you through the peeping hole.

Persona 5

When you gain access to the multi-level dungeon known as Mementos, it’s gigantic. To make traveling easy, Morgana, of course, is able to transform into a bus that the team can hop on and enjoy a cozy ride in between battles. It just so happens that it bears a striking resemblance to the cat bus from the animated movie, My Neighbor Totoro.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

Gamers get more than they expected upon purchasing the pricey $70 Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Take a very close look at the upper right analog stick motion recess and you’ll find a well-hidden message that reads “thnx2/allgamefans!”. Don’t worry, if you’re like most people, you probably never would have found that minute message. Kinda makes you love the Nintendo company even more.

Portal

This addicting puzzle game captivated gamers by the hordes. If you have the patience and curiosity, your efforts will be rewarded. Upon finding one of these hidden “dens”, players are presented with walls covered in drawings and writing which happen to be from the scientist, Doug Rattman. After being trapped in the underground laboratory, he seemingly went insane and began writing “the cake is a lie”, amongst other nonsense.

Diablo 2

Almost every Diablo fan has experienced the iconic Secret Cow Level of Diablo 2. In order to access this strange plane of existence where cows walk on two legs wielding deadly halberds, you must first gather Wirt’s Leg, the Horadric Cube, and a Town Portal Home. Combine the leg and portal scroll in the cube, and the ominous red portal will open up. Have fun slaying the mooing cows by the scores!

Saints Row 2

In this gangster shooter title, players who explore the wonderful environment may be confronted with a giant purple rabbit sea monster. In order to find this absurdly giant sea rabbit, players must first make it to a small island that’s hidden in the mists offshore. Ride around in your boat for a bit, and this cute looking sea monster will make its appearance.

Assassin’s Creed 3

Bringing back one of the most classic codes of all time (the Konami up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right), you’re able to uncover a hilarious and strange easter egg in Assassin’s Creed 3. Go up to any turkey in the homestead and feed it, afterward, use the Konami code and that same turkey will sport an assassin’s hood just like yours!

Bioshock 2

Who knew that a plane crashing into the ocean would give rise to such a discovery as the underwater city of Rapture. In the second game, while exploring the vastness of the underwater landscape, you may happen to come across the remains of the original plane that landed you there in the first place. Two thumbs up for keeping the small details in mind!

Borderlands 2

While exploring the Caustic Caverns in Borderlands 2, players can find a room that is entirely out of place and filled with Creepers from the hit game, Minecraft. The room is also filled with a few other Minecraft blocks that can be destroyed to find valuable loot. You can even find block shaped Minecraft helmets for your character to wear.

Dead Space

After playing this creepy title for a little while, you may find yourself saying “hey, where is Nicole?”. After all, she constantly haunts Isaac throughout the game with little explanation as to what happened to her. If you take the first letter of each chapter and put it together, you get your answer. Nicole is dead – mystery solved.

Fallout: New Vegas

The wasteland is filled with all kinds of strange objects and…waste. During your travels, you may come across a refrigerator which doesn’t seem all that weird by itself. When you open it up, you’ll find the skeletal remains of someone wearing a fedora. Yup, it’s Indiana Jones and a joking reference to his “nuke the fridge” stunt in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Are you ready to ride, cowboy? Fire up the Rolling Thunder mission on insane difficulty. At the start of the mission and at the base of your massive vehicle, there are three cowboy hats that are just begging to be shot. After hitting all three, you will hear a “Yeee-haw!”, and your team will be sporting some stylish cowboy hats!
