Celebrities That Have a Geeky Side

Henry Cavil

I’ll bet you never thought Superman was a nerd, did you? Turns out, Henry Cavil is a pretty serious gamer. So much so that he almost blew his shot to land the role as Superman in the Man of Steel movie. His passions are with RPG titles such as World of Warcraft and the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (who doesn’t love that game). By day he saves the world, and by night he’s killing it in raids.

Olivia Munn

She sounds familiar, doesn’t she? Probably because you’re about to have a major nostalgia moment when you read: Attack of the Show (on G4). Naturally, since she used to be a co-host of a show that solely talked about video games, she’s actually a nerd herself. She admits that her biggest enjoyments are Rock Band and Guitar Hero, especially while drinking (drinking makes all games better).

Wil Wheaton

Yep, the guy who had a brief role in Star Trek: The Next Generation and appearances in the TBS show, The Big Bang Theory. He’s not just some actor playing the dorky role, this guy is the real deal. He’s an avid video game fanatic (and that’s putting it lightly) that has no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Jason Bateman

Naturally, the other co-star of Arrested Development is part of the secret Xbox group created by Will Arnett. This calm and collected comedy actor has brought us many laughs and smiles over the years, which is surprising given that the Xbox group doesn’t even start playing until after midnight. How does he get enough sleep to do it?

Dave Chappelle

Image: variety.com

Dave Chappelle is a true comedian down to his core and still doing stand up comedy now that his acting days (for the most part, but completely) are in the past. In the middle of one of his routines, he actually came out and revealed his love for World of Warcraft. Some may take it as part of a “joke”, but you know what they say, there’s a little truth to every joke. In this case, that truth could very well be a level 100 warrior tank.

Megan Fox

The beautiful Megan Fox gets, even more, points added for being a fellow nerd. As it turns out, the model/actress is a big fan of the Mortal Kombat games, claiming that they “just work well with her brain”. While that reason is slightly creepy given the nature of the game and brutal finishing moves, we’re pretty sure any gamer would love to chance to go toe to toe with Megan.

Samuel Jackson

When he’s not on commercials or making awesome movies like Pulp Fiction and The Other Guys, this smooth operator is behind closed doors geeking out. Samuel Jackson is an old school nerd that played all of the classics but has now evolved and adopted an affinity for modern day FPS titles. Watch out CoD fans, you may find yourself getting wrecked by Samuel Jackson.

Jack Black

This one doesn’t come as much of a shock due to the fact that Jack Black emits a naturally nerdy vibe almost all of the time. We can only spitball at the true number of games he likes to sink his teeth into as he’s only revealed a couple, but we can’t forget his contribution to the far fetched Brutal Legend game.

Michelle Rodriguez

This chick has played some awesome roles from The Fast and the Furious to Resident Evil. She’s apparently been an avid gamer for many many years and has now fallen victim to the Call of Duty series (like so many of us have). Next time you see her on TV or in a movie, you’ll be looking at her in a new light and probably wondering what setup she runs.

Ice-T

Image: noisy.vice.com

This frosty Law & Order: SVU detective and old school rapper manages to find time in his busy life for the important passion of gaming. Can you guess what game he likes to play? Hint: it the first word is call. He drains hours into the popular shooter with other rappers and has even done voice acting for Gears of War 3 and GTA: San Andreas. If you happen to be reading this Ice-T, Battlefield 1 is a far superior title we know you’ll love!

Michael Fassbender

This guy is such a good actor, it never would even occur that he plays video games in his off time. I guess that fact that he played Magneto in X-Men and is also the star of the Assassin’s Creed movie are dead giveaways. Essentially, he has taken his passion so far to the next level that he actually wanted to become an assassin and act out his in game role.

Michael Phelps

While this guy isn’t spending all of his time submerged in bodies of water and swimming like a dolphin, he’s admitted that he has an addiction to Call of Duty. He even said that he can sometimes play as much as 30 hours a week! I don’t even get that kind of game time in (though I wish I did). As a successful Olympian and athlete, Michael Phelps is now also a hero in the nerd world.

Will Arnett

While he didn’t come outright and expose which titles he plays (which makes it even more interesting), he did reveal that created a secret “clan” of sorts for other celebrities that play Xbox. The Arrested Development superstar also admitted that he plays video games more than watching TV. Good choice Will, who needs TV.

Aisha Tyler

The comedian, actress, and author Aisha Tyler is actually a gaming fanatic. She openly stated that she attends E3 each and every year because she loves the whole industry. Unlike many, she holds no loyalty to any single system, rather she has used her stardom fueled wallet to “buy them all” and nerd out on a grand scale.
