Halo: Combat Evolved (The Pistol)
Just about everyone on Earth has played the original Halo. If that describes you, chances are you’ve been sniped out from across the map by a pistol at least once…or 40 times. By far, the pistol is one of the most overpowered weapons in the Halo franchise. Capable of two-shotting anyone, it’s the only weapon Master Chief needs.
Call of Duty: World at War (MP40)
Every game had that one kid who would run an MP40 with the Stopping Power and Steady Aim perks. On any close range map, that combination essentially gave you God-like powers and ensured at least one enemy player would rage quit.
Golden Eye 007 (Golden Gun)
One of the most notorious one-shot-kill weapons of all time is the Golden Gun. Back in the day when multiplayer was done on one TV and “screen looking” was running rampant, whoever got to the Golden Gun first basically won the match.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Spas-12)
Ever wondered what a shotgun sniper hybrid would be like? The Spas-12 was capable of destroying enemies both at close range and from a distance. If your target happened to be running away, it was no problem, just snipe him with your shotgun.
Super Smash Bros. (The Hammer)
There was no safe way to hide from “The Hammer” if someone else was lucky enough to grab it. Whether you were at 0% or 300% damage, The Hammer made quick work of you all the same. Running and jumping helped, but it’s massive swing radius rarely missed.
Mario Kart Series (Spiny Shell)
The Spiny Shell, AKA the Blue Turtle Shell, was first introduced in Mario Kart 64 and has since been a part of every addition in the franchise. This doomsday item made any player in first place sh*t their pants. Once it was unleashed, it didn’t matter if you slammed the breaks to fall back to third place, it was locked onto YOU.
Worms (Concrete Donkey)
This terrifying weapon was essentially a game ender. Large in size, and with the ability to ricochet off of the terrain to make for an explosively unpredictable descent, the Concrete Donkey was capable of wiping entire teams off the map.
Counter Strike (AWP)
Known by quite a few different names, the AWP is a gun that anyone who has played Counter Strike is familiar with. Pretty much a one-shot-kill machine, what made this weapon even more frustrating was when the player using it applied the “switch glitch”. Just the sound of this gun in-game was enough to make players cringe.
Splatoon (Splat Roller)
No matter the weapon you were using, a player that was masterfully trained in the art of the Splat Roller was not to be trifled with. This large paint roller in conjunction with bubble could steamroll an entire team and tip the scales of battle. If you happened to be out of its rolling radius, don’t worry, it could just throw paint like a shotgun.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Grenade Launcher)
More commonly known in the gaming community as the “Noob Tube”, this weapon is probably responsible for most rage quits and hate mail. With very little skill necessary, one could take aim and fire randomly into the air with at least a 75% chance of getting a kill.
Destiny (Vex Mythoclast)
Possibly the most notorious fusion rifle in Destiny, this behemoth of a weapon was only dropped from the Vault of Glass raid on hard mode. So many players complained about its overpowered awesomeness that Bungie nerfed the weapons base damage.
Left 4 Dead (Auto Shotgun)
If there was a horde of angry zombies barreling down a hall toward you, the auto shotgun acted as your one man army. With a few vigorous trigger pulls, you could reduce the undead threat to nothing more than red mist. In versus mode, there was seldom any strategy a team could come up with to effectively deal with this weapon.
Halo Series (Energy Sword)
Any melee weapon that can close the gap between you and your enemy is automatically broken. This magical weapon gave players the unique ability to one-hit-kill enemies with a long distance melee attack. Once the target appeared in your crosshairs, a simple trigger pull was all that was needed to ensure death.
Doom Series (BFG)
The Big F*cking Gun is quite possibly the most devastating weapon of all time. Not only does it have the ability to kill multiple enemies at once, but it was single-handedly capable of taking down the final boss in a mere 2 shots. While sucking some of the fun out of the game, it also felt good to use when gamer rage started setting in.
Call of Duty Series: Nazi Zombies (Raygun)
Anyone and everyone that plays Nazi Zombies has had their life saved by the Raygun a dozen times. If you’re lucky enough to get it from the mystery box early on, it’s the equivalent of skipping forward to wave 35. This weapon can one-shot zombies all day, and has an ample ammo supply to last multiple rounds.
