Video Games Where You Play As The Monster
Naughty Bear is an action-adventure video game released in 2010-2013 across the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and iOS. The game’s setting is a paradise island full of teddy bears living in Disney like harmony however you play as ‘Naughty Bear’ a mischevious bear always looking for trouble. The game’s entire plot is surrounded around revenge against other Teddy Bears that have done you wrong to name a few are the Mayor of the island and even the military of the island. He may not be the scariest Monster you will ever play as but he is definitely the most savage one and a perfect addition to our list of video games where you play as the monster.
Ghost Master is a puzzle strategy game for PC which sees you play as the, you guessed it the Ghost Master, a character who controls the ghosts in the stereotypical haunted mansion and are tasked with also training and also recruiting new ghosts. It’s a great game built around a great idea and it has great graphics for a game released in 2003.
Stubbs the Zombie
Stubbs the Zombie is otherwise known as Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse, is a game released in 2007 by Wideload Games. The game sees you take control of a zombie called Stubbs whose primary goal is simple, to kill humans and eat their brains. Eating brains is actually an important mechanic as it restores health and converts the humans into zombies who fight alongside the player. The game is also not a simple hack and slash instead there is a lot of strategy involved for example you need to build a horde of zombies if you are going to try and take down humans with powerful guns.

Released in 2004, The Suffering is a first and third person psychological horror game which sees you control a character called Torque from either first or third person view based on what the player prefers. Torque is a very interesting character, his backstory is that he is a prisoner on death row for murdering his wife and two children but he claims he is innocent saying that he blacked out to find his family dead. Your job is to guide through the storyline all the while escaping from prison and finding the person responsible for killing your family.
Manhunt is a stealth survival game where you again play as a prisoner on death row who has escaped, the narrative of the game is that you are forced by a twisted director to participate in ‘snuff films’ (murders on camera), the game was so graphic that it got banned in several countries on its release but it still ended up getting wide acclaim and sold 1.7 million copies. The game revolves around fighting different enemies on twenty levels and at the end of it you are graded, and best of the story the entire scene is filmed on camera(snuff film).
Aliens vs Predator
Aliens vs Predators is a video game released in 2010 based on the 2004 film, the game allows you to play as three factions technically despite the name of the game(The Colonial Marines aka the Humans, the Aliens and the Predators). With two aliens monster races you have more than enough human hunting gameplay that your heart desires.
Primal Carnage is a multiplayer game which sees you play as either the humans or the dinosaurs, the game allows you as the dinosaur faction to hunt down and tear apart your human enemies. There are three gamemodes to the game, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Capture the Egg (Capture the Flag).
Dead by Daylight
This list would not be complete without including Dead by Daylight, the game sees you take control of a selection of killers ranging from Michael Myers to Leatherface to a crazy Hillbilly. You can play as either one of the four survivors or as the one killer, this game is made for hunting your human prey and what’s even better is that it requires skill but don’t worry you will have a lot of time to hone your killing skills partly thanks to the games awarding xp levelling system.
Tecmo’s Deception is one of the oldest video games on this list with it being released in 1996 on the original PlayStation. Deception is an action roleplaying game that plays as a prisoner on death row that has been executed pleaing to the Devil himself for mercy, the Devil agrees and gives you control of the “Castle of the Damned” a place where humans can go seeking for help, for power or even salvation. Your choice is either to kill them and gain points or let them go each of your choices carrying consequences at the end of the game, you are even given the option of deciding whether to kill two parents looking for a cure for their terminally daughter.

Jaws Unleashed is a video game released in 2006 on the loathed hit movie released in 1975, the game sees you freely roaming the waters eating anything living in your path, yes including humans. All the while destorying all buildings in your path, the game stays interesting thanks to the storyline which is based on a group of researchers researching the aquatic life but discover that signals emitted by the frequencies emmitted by the Seaseeker submarines and your jobs is to basically just ruin all the storyline characters day and eat them.
Rampage is an arcade video game released in 1986 created by Bally Midway, the arcade game sees you take control of huge monsters and go an absolute rampage across a massive city. At the start of the game, it is easy with the player able to just walk around and destroy whatever he likes however eventually he has to deal with the military both on the ground and in the air, with the military being able to lower his health. The monsters available to play as are Lizzie (a Godzilla like dinosaur), Ralph (a giant werewolf transformed by a food additive) and George (a giant gorilla based on King-Kong). Each level is won by turning 100% of the city into rubble.
